During this off-season, I thought it would be good for me to go out there and talk to a fan of every Premier League club. I wanted to get their insight on how things went last season, what they are looking forward to in the transfer market and how they thought next season was going to go for them. This whole series, you will be able to find here.
For this interview , I “sat down” with Allday Leeds
So, with that said, let’s get on with the interview:
Millsy: Hi there, thank you for agreeing to do this interview with me, welcome to Millsy’s View!
ADL: Thank you.
Millsy: First off, congratulations on your team’s promotion to the Premier League, how does it feel to be back after so long?
ADL: It feels great, especially that first week after gaining promotion, then champions the following day was just amazing. Just a shame we couldn’t celebrate as Leeds knows best – absolutely mental!
Millsy: So, I’m looking to do a season review of the 2019/20 season, can you tell me how you felt about your team’s prospects going into this season? Did you believe you could win the league?
ADL: Personally, after last year’s failure at the playoffs, I truly thought we’d come out of the traps firing, and it didn’t disappoint, going the first 6 league games undefeated before the loss to Swansea, I thought “this was it”!
Millsy: It was Marcelo Bielsa’s second season as manager, just how great a job has he done? I remember watching his first game against Stoke last season and knowing he was something special, did you have that feeling too?
ADL: I’m going to be honest I’d heard of him, but I didn’t know quite how high he was respected and thought of in the managerial world. When you get the likes of Pep and Pochettino regarding him as one of the best in the world, you take not. I did a lot research when he was first talked about signing and I knew he was going to transform us for the better.
Millsy: Of course, for a long time, West Brom were at the top of the tree, did you ever fear that you might not win the league or was promotion enough?
ADL: I think a lot will agree with me when I say promotion was satisfying enough, but when your top two ALL season you have to change expectations and think “I want champions”. It’s an amazing feeling knowing the lads went out there and proved we weren’t a bunch of bottlers and they gave everything. Even during lockdown they didn’t stop with fitness programs, Bielsa had them weighing themselves and sending in reports daily!
Millsy: Do you think that Leeds will be able to play the same tactics next season in the Premier League, or do you feel they will need to play a bit more defensively?
ADL: I think the same tactics with a few additions to the squad to get the quality higher, I don’t think some of the Premier league are ready. We brag about the football but until you see it, you really don’t realise how good it is to watch.
So, that concludes the first part of the interview, thank you very much for reading, keep your eyes peeled for part two! In that, we go into the Player of the Season, the transfer market, Bielsa’s future and what the expectations are for Leeds United in the Premier League.
